Courtney Sanford’s Sad Tale
A decade ago in 2014, Courtney Sanford, 32, died in a preventable crash on a U.S. highway.
On April 24, 2014, a Thursday, she posted on Facebook, “The happy song makes me so HAPPY.” Seconds later, her car swerved across the median and hit a recycling truck.
Her car caught fire and she died right away. Her happy post led to her sudden death.
A Grim Warning
Authorities said no alcohol, drugs, or speeding caused the crash. Lt. Chris Weisner of the High Point Police Dept. said it’s a warning about distracted driving.
Weisner said, “In seconds, a life ended just to tell friends she was happy. It’s not worth it.”
The recycling truck driver, 73-year-old John Wallace Thompson, was okay, but the crash changed lives, like Courtney’s family and friends.
