Just as they finished, Leona’s patrol car pulled up. She got out, looking serious.
“Nora, can we talk inside?”
I led her in, my stomach in knots. “Kids, go play in your rooms for a bit.”
Once they were out of earshot, Leona said, “The lab results are back. The liquid? It’s a strong corrosive, used to weaken locks.”
I sank onto the couch. “So it’s true. They were gonna break in.”
Leona nodded. “Looks like it. But you did great. You’ve got cameras, you know the threat. We’re patrolling more.”
“What about Ravi?” I asked. “Should I talk to him?”
“If you see him, sure. But be careful. We don’t know if he’s in on it or just saw something.”
Just then, I saw Ravi at my neighbor’s. “He’s here,” I said, going to the window.
Leona joined me. “Go talk to him. I’ll watch.”
