Lang claims the study is important because it means we should “stop using the same old evolutionary psychology explanations for human behavior.” But really, he’s just pushing other tired, overused, and wrong ideas about what health looks like and how sexual attraction works.
What people find attractive varies from person to person. Are there trends? Yes. Are they set in stone? No. Do we fully understand it all? Definitely not. So making broad statements like “Real men don’t prefer curves” is just ridiculous.
More importantly, constantly talking about women’s bodies in such blatantly disrespectful ways when discussing what men find attractive is just awful. It gives the impression that women’s bodies are public property, there for anyone to comment on, make fun of, or lust after as they please. It’s the classic male gaze. It’s insulting and disgusting.
So, please, if we’re going to talk about studies on what men find attractive, can we at least act respectful? That would be nice.
