10 Ways Your Body May Be Telling You Something’s Wrong

  • You’re Experiencing Anger and Aggression
    Anger is normal, but excessive, uncontrolled anger over small things isn’t. Sudden anger outbursts can be a sign of depression. Many psychologists suggest anger – coping difficulties play a role in depression and anxiety. Many note a hatred and hostility tendency as a sign of depression.
    But many depression treatments ignore anger as a symptom. If you or a loved one has angry outbursts, talk to a doctor or mental health professional.
  • You’re Sleeping Too Much
    Sleeping 7 – 9 hours a night is healthy. Sleeping much longer or having daytime sleepiness could be a sign of a bigger problem. Hypersomnia means excessive daytime sleepiness or long nighttime sleep, not just lack – of – sleep tiredness. People with hypersomnia need to nap at inappropriate times, but naps don’t help.
    Hypersomnia can be a sign of conditions like multiple sclerosis, depression, encephalitis, or epilepsy. Treatment may include stimulant drugs or behavior changes, like avoiding night shifts, late nights, changing diet, or avoiding caffeine and alcohol.
  • Your Eye Color Changes
    If a grey ring appears around your eye’s cornea, it could be arcus senilis. Usually not a big worry, but it could lead to health issues if there’s an underlying cause left untreated.
    Aging is the main cause, as fat deposits form in the cornea’s outer part. It could signal high cholesterol, though not always. If you have high cholesterol, a doctor can prescribe meds and lifestyle changes to lower it.

    Thyroid disease often results from another disease affecting the thyroid. If you have symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, forgetfulness, heavy periods, dry hair, hoarse voice, or cold intolerance, talk to your doctor. They’ll figure out if your thyroid is the cause and develop a treatment plan.
  • You’re Always Thirsty
    Polydipsia means extreme, unquenchable thirst. It’s not a disease but a symptom of others, like high blood sugar from diabetes, DKA, diabetes insipidus, dehydration, or certain meds. Polyuria (excessive urination) may also occur.
    If you have dry mouth and excessive thirst without a diabetes diagnosis, talk to your doctor. If you have diabetes and these symptoms, check your blood sugar. If symptoms persist, talk to your doctor as your treatment may need adjusting.
  • You Want to Chew Ice
    The constant urge to crunch ice, called pagophagia, is a common but rarely – reported form of pica. It could be caused by iron deficiency or other anemia. A blood test can show if anemia is the cause, and you may need supplements.
