According to Marbella Carranza, classmates mocked Jocelynn and targeted her over her family’s immigration status, telling her that her parents would be taken by immigration authorities and that she would be left alone.
Jocelynn was a student at Gainesville Intermediate School. Her mother says the school was aware of what was happening, as Jocelynn had reportedly gone to counseling sessions once or twice a week to report the bullying. However, Marbella claims the school never informed her about the situation. The school district has not confirmed if they knew about Jocelynn’s case but stated that they take all reports of bullying seriously and have policies in place to address such incidents.
