Hundreds evacuated after Paris’ Eiffel Tower catches fire

Around 1,200 folks were cleared out of the Eiffel Tower on Tuesday after a fire broke out at the famed Paris landmark.

The French authorities said the flames started in the elevator shaft between the first and second floors, as per Newsweek.

Social media users shared what was going on. One person posted on X (previously Twitter): “There’s a fire raging at the Eiffel Tower. The place just got evacuated. Emergency crews set up a perimeter, but firefighters can’t reach the fire yet.”

Another witness wrote: “Fire at the Eiffel Tower. Flames were seen in the elevator shaft between the 1st and 2nd floors. Everyone nearby has been evacuated. The firefighters are still working.”
