Jewelry expert Ella Citron-Thompkins from Diamonds Factory recently shared her thoughts on why Princess Catherine was seen without her iconic engagement ring in the Scouts video appearance. According to Citron-Thompkins, the decision appeared deliberate and meaningful.
She explained that the choice to go without the ring was “likely a thoughtful and symbolic” one, with several possible reasons ranging from emotional to practical.
“The video focuses on the importance of nature, mental well-being, and emotional grounding; her ring is a highly recognizable piece, so she may strategically want audiences to connect with the messaging rather than herself,” Citron-Thompkins said.
While Princess Catherine’s absence of the engagement ring might initially appear subtle, it’s clear there was intention behind it. Citron-Thompkins noted that the Princess instead wore a more understated ring combination, which holds personal significance.
“Instead of her engagement ring, Kate Middleton opted to wear her eternity ring stack,” she observed. “Following her recent treatment, it’s clear that much has shifted in her life.”
Citron-Thompkins explained how such personal transformations often impact what people choose to wear.
“Health challenges often bring a deeper appreciation for comfort and symbolism, especially in the pieces we choose to wear, so it’s understandable and admirable as to why she may opt for a more ‘low key’ approach to casual appearances,” she said.
She also detailed the rings in the Princess’s current stack: a traditional Welsh gold wedding band and a diamond eternity ring, reportedly gifted by Prince William. On the design, Citron-Thompkins explained:
“The eternity ring features a fine band of pavé-set diamonds in white gold or platinum; understated and symbolic. In contrast to her bold sapphire engagement ring, which is rich in royal history, her eternity stack is subtle and modern, reflective of her new shift in priorities.”
