We’re in a society that measures success by how well you fit in while getting ahead. If you don’t conform or stand out, you might be called “odd” or “abnormal.”
It’s a downbeat view of life, overemphasizing looks and comparisons.
Take Jono Lancaster. He’s just like anyone else, but he’s faced the world’s unkindness.
Jono was born in England in October 1985. He didn’t look like the other babies.
He was diagnosed with Treacher Collins syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affected his facial bone development.
Doctors told his parents he might never walk or talk. Overwhelmed, they abandoned him.
“When I was born, my parents were shocked. I left the hospital 36 hours later. Social services found Jean to care for me,” Jono said at the 2015 Nord Conference.
