Police Confirm Foiled Bomb Plot At Lady Gaga Concert Attended By Two Million
Over two million people attended Lady Gaga’s free concert, and the state of Rio de Janeiro’s Civil Police have said that they were successful in stopping a “bomb attack” that was planned.
Lady Gaga, real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, gave her largest performance to date yesterday, May 3, at a two-hour spectacle at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil’s Copacabana Beach.
The event, which the 39-year-old performed for free as part of her world tour to promote her album Mayhem, is thought to have drawn an incredible 2.1 million people.
Since then, the Rio de Janeiro Civil Police have issued a statement claiming that they stopped a “bomb attack” from occurring during the event.

In a post to Twitter, authorities said: “OPERATION FAKE MONSTER | The Rio de Janeiro Civil Police, in conjunction with the Ministry of Justice, prevented a bomb attack that was planned to occur at Lady Gaga’s show in Copacabana, South Zone RJ. The person responsible for the plan was arrested, and a teenager was detained.”
According to the police, which also collaborated with the nation’s justice ministry, “The suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails.”
According to reports, a tip from Rio state police intelligence led to the discovery of the bomb plot.

“Those involved were identified as virtually recruiting participants to carry out attacks using improvised explosives – the plan was aimed at gaining notoriety on social media,” they stated.
Twelve search and seizure warrants were issued as a result of the tip being forwarded to the ministry’s cyber operations laboratory by state police intelligence.
Authorities noted: “The agents executed search and seizure warrants against targets in Rio, Niterói, Duque de Caxias, and Macaé, as well as in states such as São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, and Mato Grosso. Local Civil Police forces collaborated.”
A youngster who was reportedly found with pictures of child abuse on a gadget was arrested after a search and seizure warrant was issued.
Another resulted in the arrest of a man thought to be the group’s commander. He was discovered in possession of a firearm in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul.
The statement resolved: “The operation involved the DCAV, DRCI, 19th DP, as well as the Core. The alert about the criminal scheme came from the Civil Police Intelligence Subsecretariat (Ssinte), when investigations promptly began.”
The ‘Bad Romance’ singer had cancelled a show in 2017 due to health concerns, thus this was the first time Lady Gaga had performed in Brazil since 2012.
