Walmart customers will see changes soon as the store ditches old price tags for digital ones. This should be better for both workers and shoppers. The first test of the tech went so well that Walmart’s set to roll it out in 2,300 stores in two years.
Now, Walmart staff spend ages changing prices by hand for new stuff and sales. But with digital tags, they can update thousands of prices in minutes using a phone app. Daniela Boscan, who leads the food team at a Texas Walmart, said the digital labels have “changed” her workday. It’s made her more productive and cut down on walking time.
“A price change that took two days before now takes minutes with the new system. We can help customers more and do less boring work,” she said. The digital labels also make it easier to find things on shelves, for restocking or online orders.
The new price system has perks, but some worry Walmart might do dynamic pricing. We’ll have to wait and see.
