Inspector General Report: Confidential Sources on January 6 Spark Critical Questions

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz dropped a long-awaited report on Thurs. It focused on the FBI’s use of confidential human sources (CHS) during the Jan 6, 2021, Capitol breach. The report shows big flaws in intel management and coordination, making us question the FBI’s prep and oversight that day.

Horowitz looked into the FBI’s use of informants before and during Jan 6. Turns out 26 were at the Capitol — way more than the 3 officially there to watch.

4 went into the Capitol bldg.
13 entered restricted areas outside.
9 stayed in non-restricted zones and did nothing illegal.

The report says none of these sources got prosecuted. The FBI didn’t okay them to do or stir up illegal stuff. There’s no proof they led or directly sparked the violence.
