“Nana Caymmi, one of the greatest voices in Brazilian music, has died in Rio ,” said the journalist when announcing the singer’s death on the news schedule of the most-watched news program on Brazilian TV. JN aired a long report telling the singer’s legacy.

Singer Nana Caymmi has passed away at the age of 84 in Rio de Janeiro. The artist had been hospitalized since July of last year at Casa de Saúde São José, located in the Humaitá neighborhood, in the southern part of the state capital. According to information released by the hospital, her death was caused by multiple organ failure, after a long period of complications resulting from cardiac arrhythmia.
Born Dinahir Tostes Caymmi on April 29, 1941, Nana turned 84 two days before her death. She was the daughter of legendary composer Dorival Caymmi and Stella Maris, and grew up in a deeply musical environment, alongside her brothers Danilo and Dori Caymmi, also renowned musicians. Her career was marked by moving interpretations and a vocal presence that conquered generations.
