Washing machines have long been essential for laundry, saving time and effort. But not everything can go in them, especially home – use ones. Don’t put these 5 items in the washing machine:
Clothes with Metal Accessories or Big Decorative Beads
When washing, metal accents or decorative beads on clothes may come off. They can damage the drum or clog the pipes. Metal parts can also harm the machine’s internal components, causing leaks or electrical short – circuits that might start a fire. Remove accessories before washing if possible; if not, wash by hand.
Shoes
Many people toss shoes in the washing machine for convenience, not realizing shoes aren’t meant for this. It reduces cleaning effectiveness, contaminates the drum, ruins the shoe’s structure, and can damage the machine due to the weight of wet shoes.
Certain Pillows
Some pillows, like herbal or rubber ones, get very heavy when wet and are likely to break in the machine. Damp pillows can grow mold and germs, leading to allergies, skin issues, and respiratory problems.
Down Jackets
Don’t machine – wash down jackets. Washing may damage the jacket’s insulation, making the down clump and reducing warmth. It can also wear out the inner fabric, distort the shape, and leave detergent residue that may irritate the skin.
Thick and Big Blankets
Thick blankets get extremely heavy when wet, often too heavy for the washing machine. This not only prevents proper cleaning but also overloads the machine, damaging the spin mechanism, shortening its lifespan, and potentially causing electrical short – circuits.
