The king’s dear friend Captain Ian Farquhar has passed away. He was 78.
Ian had been buddies with both the King and Queen Camilla for an extended period. He also served as a rider for the Queen Mother.
He was a renowned hunter and an outstanding horseman who served in the Queen’s Own Hussars.
This is another setback for the King, who is already grappling with his own cancer diagnosis. Lord (Jacob) Rothschild passed away last week at the age of 87.
Back in 2000, during Prince William’s gap year, he was in a relationship with Ian’s daughter Rose Farquhar. The two had romantic picnics in the Gloucestershire countryside.
Ian had rented a farmhouse on the King’s Highgrove estate in Gloucestershire for numerous years.
Stephen Parker Bowles, Queen Camilla’s first husband, informed the Daily Mail that Ian had been seriously ill.
Andy told them that Ian passed away at Highgrove early on Wednesday morning.
He described the man as “as untamed as a hawk in his youth, but always a great deal of fun.”
He said that Ian would be remembered in history as “one of the remarkable Masters of Hounds.”
For 34 years, Ian held the position of Master of the Beaufort Hunt.

The hunt stated, “It pains us deeply to convey our love and sympathies to the family and friends of our own Captain Ian Farquhar. He led us splendidly for 34 years and passed away peacefully this week.”
“Many in the hunting community held him in high regard and affection as ‘Captain.’ He was helpful, amiable, and always ready to offer excellent, forward-looking counsel to anyone who sought it.”
“He had a delightfully mischievous sense of humor, and those fortunate enough to be in his company and hear about his diverse and thrilling experiences in the army and as a hunter will cherish those memories forever.”
Captain adored hounds, his family, and dogs. We believe that up there, a whole group of dogs will be eagerly awaiting him, thrilled to be reunited with him.
