Our bodies give us some common warning signs about potential health issues, and while not all are serious, they’re often overlooked. It’s better to be cautious when our health might be at stake. When we notice these symptoms, it’s a good idea to see a doctor.
1. Dandruff and Hair Loss
A flaky scalp is common. When it comes with hair loss, it might mean a lack of key vitamins and nutrients. Low levels of zinc, B – vitamins (B2, B3, B6, B7), and iron can cause this problem.
2. Wrinkly Hands and Fingers
Wrinkles on the body are a normal part of aging, and pruney fingers happen after being in water a long time. But if hands wrinkle and lose elasticity faster than other body parts, it could be a warning. Wrinkles on fingertips without water exposure might show dehydration, poor blood circulation, or a thyroid problem.
3. White Patches on the Tongue
A healthy tongue is usually pink. If you see white patches, it could be oral thrush, especially common in diabetics. The patches might also mean poor oral hygiene, so improving how you care for your mouth could help.
4. Skin Rashes
Eczema usually shows as red, itchy skin. But rashes and fever can also be from infections or contact with certain plants. Even if the spots don’t seem dangerous, they can get infected, so a doctor should check them.
5. Swollen Ankles
Swollen ankles are common during pregnancy. But if you’re not pregnant, they could mean poor blood circulation, heart problems, or an underactive thyroid. Eating too much salt, which causes water retention, can also be a less serious reason.
6. Dry Eyes
Dry eyes can cause burning, inflammation, and eye damage. Aging or some medicines can cause dryness, but it could also be a sign of Sjogren’s Syndrome. Dry mouth often goes with Sjogren’s, which is an immune system disorder.
7. Bloating
A little bloating after a meal is usually no big deal, but it could mean food sensitivity. Eating foods you’re allergic to (even if you don’t know) makes your stomach produce a lot of gas. Wheat and gluten are common culprits.
8. Unexplained Bruises
If you keep finding bruises in strange places and don’t remember bumping into anything, see a doctor. Random, easy bruising could be from a simple vitamin deficiency, but it could also signal something more serious, like a blood – clotting disorder.
9. Constant Thirst
Staying hydrated is important, but constant thirst is a common sign of prediabetes. Other common symptoms are tiredness and frequent urination because of the thirst.
10. Random Muscle Twitches
Physical activity, stress, dehydration, and lack of sleep can cause muscle twitching. In more serious cases, it might indicate a brain problem or kidney disease.
11. Snoring
Snoring is annoying for your partner but usually not bad for your health. Sometimes, though, it could mean OSA (obstructive sleep apnea). OSA needs medical treatment, and your doctor might give you a device to help you sleep and breathe better at night.
