Maju Coutinho makes Brazil cry when she reports the death of a singer: ‘she died today in Rio…’

Fantástico presenter reported the artist’s death on Sunday night (20).

Maju Coutinho presented Fantástico this Sunday (20) alone. Poliana Abritta, her co-host on the electronic magazine, was given a day off and did not work. During Show da Vida, Maju aired a sad story involving a beloved Brazilian singer.

“Singer and composer Cristina Buarque died today in Rio ,” announced Maju Coutinho. The host of Fantástico then gave some details about the career of Chico Buarque’s sister, including Cristina’s fight against cancer.

Death of Cristina Buarque

Singer and songwriter Maria Cristina Buarque passed away this Easter Sunday (20), at the age of 74. The information was confirmed by her son, filmmaker Zeca Ferreira, in a post on social media. The artist had been battling breast cancer for about a year and had been monitored by doctors and family members during treatment.

Maria Cristina was part of one of the most traditional families in Brazilian culture. Daughter of historian Sérgio Buarque de Holanda and pianist Maria Amélia Cesário Alvim, she was the sister of singer Chico Buarque, former minister Ana de Hollanda and singer Miúcha, who died in 2018.

Cristina Buarque leaves behind children

Despite having maintained a more discreet career than her brothers, Cristina also contributed to Brazilian music, especially in the more intimate and independent circuit. Her sensitivity as a composer was recognized by artists and critics who followed her artistic career.

Her son Zeca Ferreira, director of the film Noites de Alface, highlighted his mother’s strength and sweetness in his tribute. According to him, in addition to being an artist, Cristina was a dedicated mother and an inspiring figure within the family. In addition to Zeca, she leaves behind four other children: Ana, Paulo, Antônio and Piiizinha.
