Many of us have heard about strokes. Strokes don’t just affect the elderly; they also happen to many young people.
Strokes are very dangerous. If not detected and treated quickly, they can severely impact our lives. I read in the newspaper that there are some morning habits that can easily lead to a stroke. Here, I’ll share information about these habits so we can avoid them.
Doctor Nguyen Xuan Quang from the Military Medical Academy warned everyone to stop some bad morning habits to prevent strokes.
Habit 1: Jumping Up Immediately After Waking
This is a common habit. Health experts say it’s one of the easiest ways to cause a stroke in the morning. Dr. Quang warned that when we sleep, the parasympathetic nervous system is active, making the heart beat slower and with less force, and blood pressure is lower than when we’re awake. If we suddenly wake up, the sympathetic nervous system kicks in strongly. The heart beats faster and harder, raising blood pressure. This makes the small blood vessels in the brain more likely to burst, causing a hemorrhagic stroke. Dr. Quang suggests lying down for 1-2 minutes after waking up, massaging your face, head, eyes, and neck before getting up.
Habit 2: Drinking Salt Water in the Morning
Many people think drinking salt water in the morning has good antiseptic effects, like killing mouth bacteria, strengthening teeth, and gums. But we shouldn’t drink salt water in the morning. Eating too much salt can cause high blood pressure, strokes, and kidney damage. Also, when we first wake up with an empty stomach, drinking salt water can harm the esophagus and stomach lining, leading to inflammation and ulcers over time.
Habit 3: Exercising at Dawn
Exercise is good for health, but don’t exercise at dawn before the sun rises. At this time, the temperature is low. Exercising early can lead to colds. Cold weather can cause blood vessels to constrict, which is dangerous as it can lead to myocardial infarction, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, and strokes. For those in poor health, early morning exercise can also cause serious sleep deprivation, and our bodies won’t function well, increasing the risk of injury.
Habit 4: Drinking Too Much Water at Once in the Morning
Drinking water in the morning is good, but don’t drink too much at once, especially in winter. Drinking a large amount of water in a short time increases the heart’s load. People with existing cardiovascular problems may experience symptoms like shortness of breath, rapid heartbeat, or even strokes. It’s best to drink a small amount, about 200-300ml. Also, take small sips and don’t wait until you’re thirsty to drink.
I read this in the newspaper and found it interesting, so I’m sharing it. Since strokes are very dangerous and can affect our lives, we should be careful with our daily habits, especially those in the morning.
