Richard ‘Kinky’ Friedman, celebrated country music singer, dies at 79 after Parkinson’s battle – Daily Stories

In late June, renowned singer Richard “Kinky” Friedman passed away at his Texas home. He was 79. Last month, the country music community mourned his loss.

On Thursday, June 27, the news came via a touching social media post. Friedman died at his Echo Hill Ranch home in Medina, with family and friends around.

“With loved ones beside him, Kinky Friedman left this world at Echo Hill, his favorite place,” the post read. “Despite years of pain and loss, he never lost his fighting spirit or sharp wit.”

Friedman ran for governor against Ricky Perry in 2006. His campaign got media buzz but he placed fourth.

He also vied to be a Democratic candidate for agriculture commissioner in 2010 and 2014, without success.

“A great communicator,” said long-time friend Clive Hattersley. “A unique speaker, clear and profound. On stage, he could move you to tears or laughter.”
