Family say ‘we just want answers’ as fresh investigation launched into daughter’s disappearance
Catrin Maguire, 22, was last seen in her hometown of Holyhead on Anglesey in November 2021 and her family have been searching for her ever since
A new independent investigation is being launched into the disappearance of Catrin Maguire. The 22-year-old has been missing for four years, having last been seen in her home town of Holyhead on Anglesey in November 2021.
Her heartbroken family have continued to look for answers ever since, amid the pain of not knowing what happened or her whereabouts. Investigators from the charity Locate International have now taken up the case and will conduct their own independent probe at the family’s request.
Speaking about the launch of the new investigation, her dad Gerry Maguire said “all we want are answers”.
The police case into her disappearence remains ongoing.
A statement from Locate International said: “Catrin, a third-year health and social care student at the University of Bangor, had bought a return train ticket from Bangor to Holyhead on Monday, 15 November, 2021.
“She was seen on CCTV footage walking near the family home in Holyhead, but she did not call home.
“An eyewitness later saw her at the car park of the RSPB reserve at South Stack, a few miles from the town centre.
“Within an hour of that sighting, her mobile phone was manually switched off, and she was not seen again. Since then, a few possible witnesses have come forward to report potential sightings later that afternoon.
“At the time of her disappearance, Catrin was wearing a dark coat and was carrying a light-coloured bag. She was of slim build, was about 5’5″ (165cm) tall and had straight, dark hair that went down past her shoulders,” reports North Wales Live.
Catrin’s father, Gerry Maguire, said: “Since Catrin went missing, it’s become clear to us that there’s only so much we can do as a family.
“We don’t have the time or the skills to make the connections via social media, when all we want are answers.
“We’re very grateful that Locate International can help take on this responsibility and to take some of the load away from us. It has been, and continues to be, overwhelming and exhausting.
“Once again, we’d like to thank all those people who have supported us and continue to support us. ” For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter
Mark Greenhalgh, CEO of Locate International, added: “Locate International’s team comprises experienced investigators and has access to a wide range of specialists, including former law enforcement professionals, forensic experts, researchers, and academics, who work collaboratively to review and reinvestigate complex cases.
“This will be an independent investigation into the facts around Catrin’s disappearance, and does not supersede the ongoing police investigation, but complements it.
Freya Couzens, Locate International’s director of communications, added: “We’re here to listen. Information can be shared with us in confidence, and you may remain anonymous if you wish. Every submission is carefully reviewed by our team.
“We also welcome contact from anyone who may have previously tried to share information and felt it wasn’t fully considered. Our commitment is to provide a safe and confidential space where every voice is heard.”
