A married couple, celebrating their anniversary, decided to go out for a meal. After some thought, they settled on their local Chinese restaurant.
They carefully went through the menu and finally decided to share the chef’s special, “Chicken Surprise.”
The waiter soon brought the dish, which was served in a lidded cast – iron pot.
Just as the wife was about to dig in, the lid of the pot lifted slightly. She caught a quick glimpse of two small, beady eyes looking around before the lid snapped back down.
“Goodness gracious, did you see that?” she asked her husband, clearly startled.
He hadn’t, so she urged him to look inside the pot.
He reached for the pot, and sure enough, the lid rose again. He, too, saw those two beady little eyes peering around before the lid slammed shut forcefully.
Quite disturbed, he beckoned the waiter over. He explained what had happened and demanded an explanation.
“Well, sir,” the waiter said, “What did you order?”
“We both ordered the same thing,” he replied. “The Chicken Surprise.”
“Oh, I’m truly sorry. This is my mistake,” the waiter apologized…
“I’ve brought you the Peking duck.”
