A man loses his life while rescuing his son and wife

On Sunday afternoon, right in the middle of Father’s Day celebrations, a 29-year-old man sadly drowned after entering the river to rescue his wife and son, who were being swept away by the current.

This unfortunate event adds to the list of tragedies that have been occurring on the eve of the celebrations for dad, such as in Torreón, where a man died due to a fight at his son’s wedding.

The events occurred around two in the afternoon in Villa Paraíso, Ciudad Juárez, Durango, when a report was made through the emergency lines of a minor who was swept away by the current. However, upon arrival of Civil Protection officers from Lerdo, they were notified that a man had entered to rescue him, but moments later he was unable to get out.

According to the relatives of the now deceased, who in life responded to the name of Jesús Guadalupe Ruiz González, he entered the river approximately 10 minutes after having eaten to rescue his wife and son, who were being dragged by the current, managing to get them both to safety although he was no longer able to return to dry land and unfortunately, he lost his life by drowning.

It was around 3 p.m. that the competent authorities managed to recover the body from the depths after the divers had carried out the first submersion, and the body was then made available to the Forensic Medical Service for the legal autopsy.

This case adds to the list of accidents that occur in rivers, canals, etc., where authorities warn about the risks involved in entering these places where the current is quite strong.

Just two days ago, in Mapimí, Durango, the body of a young day laborer was found in a pond. It was reported that he slipped and was unable to get out when he reached the water.

However, it was also last May that a man was found dead at the bottom of the Sacramento Canal in Gómez Palacio.

Authorities have warned citizens to be cautious around irrigation canals, as they are not a recreational area; the currents they carry are quite strong and can carry people away with great force.

Authorities are urging residents not to approach irrigation canals, and if anyone is inside, whether for fun or in an emergency, to report it immediately to the 911 emergency system; their lives are in danger.
