Star Trek icon William Shatner was hit with a harsh diagnosis of aggressive prostate cancer following a PSA test that showed elevated levels. “A doctor informed me that I had a life-threatening illness. That I was facing death,” Shatner stated. The 90-year-old actor, famed for his legendary portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk, had to grapple with thoughts of mortality for the first time. “Ten! My own body had let me down,” he remembered.
Further investigation indicated that the testosterone supplements Shatner had been using might be associated with his cancer. “I questioned whether I should stop taking the supplements,” Shatner said, and eventually concluded it was a “brilliant idea.”
