An Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. 38 of the 67 on board died. 28 survived, including 2 kids. The flight from Baku to Grozny went off course and crashed by the Caspian Sea oil hub.
The Kazakh ministry said passengers were from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Investigations are on, and Azerbaijani officials are at the site.
President Ilham Aliyev called a national mourning day and canceled his Russia trip. Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov sent their sympathies.
Emergency crews and doctors are helping survivors. Azerbaijan Airlines said the plane tried an emergency landing 3 km from Aktau.
