Hundreds evacuated after Paris’ Eiffel Tower catches fire

Authorities think the fire started because of an overheating device near an elevator cable, Boulevard Voltaire reported, citing police. The Mirror said firefighters managed to control the situation, even with access issues.

Julien Tellier, a journalist for Boulevard Voltaire, said: “About 1,200 people were evacuated. The firefighters reportedly found the fire started from a cable overheating. It’s under control and out now.”

The Eiffel Tower, one of the world’s most famous structures, gets 15,000 to 25,000 visitors daily, according to RoadGenius stats.

This incident brings back memories of the huge fire that hit Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris in April 2019.
