Celine Dion just released an update about her health, and informed fans that she will be rescheduling some tour dates to 2024. Dion stated that in order to prioritize her health, she is delaying the start of her tour.
Singer Celine Dion disclosed Thursday morning that she suffers from a “very rare neurological disorder called stiff-person syndrome” in an emotional video that was shared on her official Instagram page
Celine announced the news on Instagram, writing:
“I’ve been dealing with health problems for some time now, and it’s really tough for me to talk about everything I’ve been experiencing and to face these difficulties. “I’m sorry to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my European tour in February,” she said in the post. Stiff-person syndrome is “a rare autoimmune movement disorder that impacts the central nervous system (the brain and spinal cord)”. According to the Cleveland Clinic, those with this condition first notice a stiffening of their trunk muscles, and over time, stiffness and rigidity develop in the legs and other body muscles.
She mentioned that the spasms she’s been having, which are apparently a symptom of the syndrome, are affecting every aspect of her daily life, including her singing and walking.
She further explained that she’s been diagnosed with the neurological condition of stiff person syndrome, which is leading to severe spasms. So, it makes sense that she’s taking the time to concentrate on her recovery.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, this condition affects approximately one in every one million people. There’s no known cure for it, and its cause remains a mystery. Dion said that for her to be able to perform again, her medical team will help her manage her symptoms.
