9 things to never plug into a power strip

  1. Auxiliary heating
Use it, but plug it straight into a wall outlet. Never an extension cord, as it’ll overload the power strip fast.
  2. The microwave
Don’t be fooled by its size. A microwave can gulp down 70 kWh a year. Skip the extension cord.
  3. The coffee maker
You might think a coffee maker’s a lightweight, but it actually uses about 165 kWh/year. Wall outlet only.
  4. The toaster
    If you toast bread daily, you’re using 500 – 1000 W a year. That’s a lot for a small thing. Don’t plug it into a power strip.
  5. Another extension
Using multiple extension cords plugged together? Terrible idea. You’ll quickly exceed the power strip’s limit.

This is a major cause of domestic fires.
