‘My life is amazing:’ A 76-year-old man who was paralyzed by polio at the age of six is one of the last people with an iron lung.

Paul had a long, successful law career and even wrote a book. Reportedly, he’s the last iron lung user.

“I took it everywhere, college, dorms. People were shocked,” he said. When it broke, he begged for repair help. Spare parts were around since few used it. “Lots with polio died. I found old iron lungs in barns, garages, thrift stores. Enough for parts,” he explained.

Despite it all, Paul says his life’s been great. “I won’t let anyone limit me. My life’s amazing,” he says.
