CCTV also reported that the epicenter of this earthquake is 380 kilometers away from Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. And there were only a few communities within a 5-kilometer radius of the epicenter.
The USGS further pointed out that over the past century, there have been at least 10 earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater in the area where Tuesday’s quake struck.
In Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, residents were jolted awake by the tremors and rushed out of their homes. The shockwaves were also felt in parts of northern India. It’s worth noting that the region where Tuesday’s earthquake occurred is known for being earthquake-prone.
