Picture this: it’s the middle of the night, you’re half-asleep, stumbling your way to the bathroom, and when you flip on the light, there it is – a rat, just chilling in your toilet bowl. What do you do? Well, after my initial urge to put the house on the market and move to a rat-free island passes, here’s the more sensible action plan I came up with after talking to every expert I could find:
Stay Calm: Freaking out will probably scare the rat and might make it run and hide in even harder-to-reach places in your home.
Contain the Problem: Quickly close the toilet lid to stop it from getting out and put something heavy on top. Rats can be surprisingly strong, and you definitely don’t want a wild chase in your bathroom.
