Last month saw a significant event for the British royal family.
Prince Harry flew to London for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. While he was in the UK, his brother Prince William got a big new honor from King Charles. It seemed like a coincidence, but many thought it was a major snub to Harry.
The Palace announced that King Charles III has made Prince William the colonel-in-chief of the Army Air Corps. The statement said, “His Majesty the King will officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. In August 2023, after His Majesty’s Accession, the King was pleased to announce military appointments including that the Prince of Wales would become Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. The role was previously held by His Majesty the King, as Prince of Wales, for 31 years.”
Royal expert Tom Quinn said Prince Harry was “in tears when he heard”. He added, “What makes it much worse is that the role is being given to the very man Harry blames for many of his problems — his brother. And the announcement was deliberately made during Harry’s short visit to the UK to have maximum impact; it shows Harry that he really isn’t welcome anymore.”
