Doctor Cautions Against Everyday Bathroom Habit That Might Harm Your Health

Dr. Joe Whittington reveals why a common routine behavior might pose unexpected health risks.

If you often use your phone while on the toilet, you could be harming your health unknowingly.

These bathroom breaks often get longer as we browse social media or kill time, sometimes due to slow bowel movements. But spending too much time on the toilet can do more than just numb your legs.

A doctor warns this habit could lead to health issues. In today’s world, taking phones to the bathroom to watch videos or tweet has become almost normal. A Vioguard, Inc. poll showed 73% of people admit to using their phone in the bathroom, and 93% of 18 – 29 – year – olds own up to this habit.

Experts say this habit can cause blood to pool in an unwanted area. Dr. Joe Whittington, known as Dr. Joe MD online, posted a TikTok video. He said sitting on the toilet too long can make blood gather around the anus, potentially causing hemorrhoids. He told his followers, “Prolonged toilet sitting makes blood pool in anal veins, which may form hemorrhoids. So, don’t sit and scroll.” And added, “Get off that toilet seat!”
