Camilla broke down in tears at the end of the 11-day royal tour of Australia and Samoa with her husband. Some sources claim there’s a rather poignant reason behind her weeping.
It’s not just a matter of tradition that senior members of the Royal Family keep a tight rein on their emotions in public; it’s almost a set protocol. Camilla, being part of the older generation of royals, is usually as composed as King Charles, Princess Anne, and the late Queen Elizabeth.
However, the 77-year-old couldn’t hold back her tears during a farewell ceremony in the village of Siumu, Samoa. Charles, who has been battling cancer throughout this year, gave a touching speech after being bestowed with an honorary title that translates to “paramount chief”.
According to RadarOnline, the cause of Camilla’s unusual display of raw emotion is that the Queen Consort is coming to grips with the possibility that her husband’s reign as king might be nearing its end.
Now, it should be noted that there has been no official word that Charles’s cancer has worsened, nor any sign that the 76-year-old, who waited longer than any heir-apparent in British history to ascend the throne, is having serious difficulties.
Nonetheless, the key facts are that Charles has been fighting an undisclosed type of cancer since February, and there have been hardly any updates on the success or failure of his treatment.
Why did Camilla cry?
Speculation has inevitably filled the gaps where solid information is lacking. Some are now suggesting that Camilla’s tears at the end of her and Charles’ recent trip carry significant meaning.
“I shall always remain committed to this part of the world and hope that I live long enough to return and see you again,” Charles said in his speech in Samoa. “We will carry with us, I assure you, very special memories of our time here.”
Observers couldn’t help but notice Camilla’s tears streaming down her face, although the Queen Consort tried her best to conceal them behind a fan.
As per RadarOnline, a royal insider stated: “Deep in her heart, she must be afraid that Charles is dying and she’ll be left to face the rest of her life alone.
“How Camilla will cope with royal life without Charles is anyone’s guess. All these thoughts must have been running through her mind during his speech. You could see it in her tears.”
King Charles’ Treatment
Charles notably paused his cancer treatment while he and Camilla were on their tour of Australia and Samoa. Some sources reported that he showed signs of chemotherapy side effects, such as swollen and inflamed lips.
Earlier this year, there were reports of friction between Charles and Camilla regarding the amount of work he was continuing to do. After an initial period when the King stepped back from public engagements to focus on his treatment, he resumed a somewhat normal schedule.
Apparently, this was enough to make Camilla “extremely unhappy,” according to a friend of the Queen Consort, who insisted that Camilla wants her husband to devote all his energy to his recovery.
“Camilla would have been extremely unhappy that, having just started his holiday on Monday, he cut it short on Tuesday to attend an extremely intense engagement,” the friend told the Daily Beast.
“Of course, she understands it was very important, and she would never try to dictate to Charles, but the timing seems odd. She wants him to slow down, she’s afraid he’s overworking, and that’s even before the Australia tour.”
