Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been apart by nearly 3,000 miles for a while now, which has given rise to rumors that their relationship is under strain.
The Duke of Sussex recently disclosed in a rather surprising manner why he was by himself in New York while his wife was socializing at a celeb-packed event in California.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, who is 40, have been showing up at events separately in recent months, and this has triggered media speculation about their marriage.
Meghan, 43, walked the red carpet alone on December 4 at the glamorous Paley Honors Fall Gala in Beverly Hills.
Harry tried to tackle the topic of the couple’s relationship status from the opposite coast after she made a solo appearance at the event honoring Princess Lilibet’s godfather, filmmaker Tyler Perry.
The prince was asked about the public’s interest in him and his wife and their “professional separation” by columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin during The New York Times’ 2024 DealBook Summit.
“I searched for you on Google News, and I noticed that people were always captivated by what you were doing. Regarding Meghan’s presence at the Paley Honors dinner, Sorkin said, “They’re intrigued [why] Meghan is in California right now, and you’re here.”
“And there are articles all over about, you know, ‘Why are you doing independent events?'” Sorkin added. Why don’t you do them together?
The Duke of Sussex had a straightforward answer: “You should have known, since you invited me!” he said, and then the audience erupted in laughter.
“That’s right,” Sorkin replied. Does that seem normal to you? “Well, what’s going on with these two, right?” people wonder when they see a report that you’re in New York and she’s in California. Is the fact that so many people are interested in you, in a way, an advantage for you?
While her husband, Prince Harry, was addressing divorce rumors at a different event on a separate coast, Meghan Markle went to a gala with Tyler Perry.
On Thursday, December 5, 2024, Page Six posted
“No, that’s definitely not a good thing,” Harry said. “Apparently, we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times,” Harry continued, referring to some of the rumors floating around about the royal family. It seems that we’ve also divorced maybe ten or twelve times. So, it’s just like, “What?”
You just kind of ignore it because it’s impossible to keep up with. Harry went on, “The trolls are the ones I feel the sorriest for.” They keep getting their hopes up, and then they say, ‘Yes, yes, yes, yes,’ and it never happens. So I feel bad for them. I really do.
“Lived it.”
Prince Harry noted that he had “lived it” since he was a little boy, a media frenzy that started with his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, and her rocky marriage with his father, King Charles III. Being in the spotlight is nothing new to him.
The prince explained, “I’ve had a personal experience since I was a kid.” I’ve encountered stories about myself that aren’t accurate. I’ve seen tales about friends, family, strangers, and a whole range of other people.
“And I think growing up in that kind of environment makes you question not only the truth of the information but also what others think about it and how dangerous it can be over time.”
I have “no doubt” that my conversation with the NYT columnist “will be twisted or misinterpreted somehow against me, and maybe you yourself will be trolled non-stop,” Harry joked before leaving the stage.
Harry added, “I can only apologize for that, but it’s not my fault because you invited me.”
