Beloved Actress Dies Shortly After She Discovered She Had “Silent Killer” Disease

At 71 years old, Kirstie Alley, who’ll forever be remembered for her role in the hit television series Cheers, passed away. Kirstie had only “recently found out” that she had colon cancer, and sadly, her family disclosed that it was this cancer that led to her death after a short but fierce battle. Colon cancer is often called the “silent killer” because it usually takes longer for symptoms to show up compared to other types of cancer. According to her family’s statement on social media:

She fought bravely while surrounded by her dearest family members, leaving us with no doubt about her boundless love for life and her eagerness for whatever adventures awaited her. She was a legendary actress, but an even better mother and grandmother.

Before she passed, Kirstie was receiving treatment at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Although Alley will always be best known for playing the bar manager on the TV show Cheers, she was also famous for being an active Scientologist and for getting into public spats with other celebrities.

One of the first to pay tribute to the late actress was John Travolta, who had a romantic connection with Kirstie in the past:

“My relationship with Kirstie was one of the most special ones I’ve ever had. Kirstie, I love you. I’m sure we’ll meet again.”

Ted Danson, who played the head bartender on Cheers, said that he was watching an episode of the show on a plane when Tom Berenger proposed to Kirstie’s character. He said,

“She was both deeply moving and hilariously funny when she played a woman on the verge of a nervous breakdown. When she filmed that scene 30 years ago, she made me laugh, and she still makes me laugh now. I learned that Kirstie had passed away as I got off the plane. She always made me laugh, and I’m both terribly sad and grateful for that. To her children, I send my love. They know their mother had a kind heart. She’ll be dearly missed.”

Peace be with you, Kirstie. We’ll miss you!
