Actress Rose McGowan is renowned for her blunt and forthright character and has recently made waves by openly lambasting media mogul Oprah Winfrey on Twitter…
Actress Rose McGowan pulls no punches. The Hollywood actress recently took to Twitter to assail media mogul Oprah Winfrey in a tweet that has since gone viral, garnering thousands of shares and comments from supporters of both McGowan and Winfrey. McGowan outed Oprah Winfrey on social media due to her past ties with the infamous Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein, whom McGowan accused of heinous acts.
Particularly among those who formerly held Oprah in high regard, the post in question ignited a fierce controversy on social media. If McGowan’s claims are accurate, then her account, which seemed to be a long time in coming, exposed Oprah in a manner that most Americans had never witnessed before. The article left little to the imagination as it laid bare McGowan’s genuine sentiments about Oprah and what she chose to do with the influence she had amassed over the years.
McGowan wrote: “I’m glad she’s seeing more and more of Oprah’s dreadful truth. She’s not genuine, but I wish she was. She’s about propping up a corrupt power structure for her own gain, from befriending Weinstein to forsaking and ruining Russell Simmons’ victims. She is an utter phony. #lizard.”
Approximately a year after Oprah stepped down from her position as executive producer of Russell Simmons’ #MeToo documentary, McGowan stepped into the fray. At the time, Oprah stated her reason for departing: “More work needs to be done on the film to elucidate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it became evident that the filmmakers and I were not in accord regarding that creative vision.”
Oprah asserted that she “unequivocally believes in and backs women” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter at the time. Their stories merit being heard and related.
Regrettably, Oprah has had interactions with Weinstein in the past. In 2013, she starred in The Butler, a film distributed by the Weinstein Company. After actresses began emerging as Weinstein’s victims, Oprah conceded that she had previously been “on friendly terms with Harvey” but contended that she “wasn’t aware that any of this was transpiring” and that she would have taken action if she had known he was a predator preying on women.
