Kathy Bates diagnosed with chronic health condition

In her personal life, she had health setbacks. Diagnosed with cancer twice, ovarian in 2003 and breast in 2012.

After breast cancer surgery, she opened up about lymphedema. She’s a spokesperson for the Lymphatic Education & Research Network. She lost 80 pounds and wears compression sleeves to stop arm swelling, especially flying or working hard.

She slows down to manage it. “If I stop rushing, relax, and focus, I can handle lymphedema. The pandemic helped,” she said.

She tells others not to let it stop living. “Wearing a compression garment in public can be tough when people don’t know about LE. But hiding at home makes it worse,” she said.

She wants more research and funding for lymphedema and won’t let her diagnosis stop her acting.
