Can you spot the bear in this photo?

How “blind” do you have to be not to see the bear in this picture? 🐻👀
The answer is below.

The Circassians are an ancient group from the North Caucasus, an area that includes parts of modern-day Russia, Georgia, and Turkey. For centuries, they’ve had a strong tradition of hunting—especially bears, which has been an important part of their culture.

To catch bears, Circassians used specially trained dogs, large spears, and heavy traps. The dogs, like the Caucasian Shepherd, would track down the bear and bark loudly to alert the hunters to its location.

The hunters would then get close with their spears, trying to injure or kill the bear. But since bears are incredibly strong and dangerous, they often needed to use traps—big, wooden boxes filled with food. When the bear walked inside to eat, the door would close, trapping it inside.

Once caught, the bear would be killed, and its meat and fur would be used. The fur was turned into clothing and blankets, and the meat was eaten.

Today, bear hunting is banned in many parts of the world, including much of Russia and Europe, for conservation reasons. But these old hunting traditions show us a piece of the Circassian people’s rich cultural history.
