Caregiver of baby who died in daycare gives her version of events, and mother disputes: ‘She didn’t save my son’

Mother disputes version of story of daycare worker where four-month-old baby died

The Civil Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of a four-month-old baby, which occurred in an unregulated daycare center in the Tatuquara neighborhood, in Curitiba, last Monday (19). The case, which initially points to a possible choking on milk, also raises suspicions of negligence on the part of the caregiver.

The child’s family , in turn, questions the narrative presented by the person responsible for the place, who stated that the baby already had health problems before being left in her care. “She didn’t save my son! I arrived and my son was dead! He was dead!” , says the baby’s mother.

Mother disputes baby carer’s version

The baby’s mother, identified as Isabela, explained that the decision to seek an alternative way of caring for her son came after numerous failed attempts to obtain a place in public education institutions.

She reports having registered the baby when he was just over a month old, following the pattern with her other children, but the lack of vacancies led her to look for someone to look after the child.

Isabela added that the caregiver was recommended by other people, with a history of more than a decade caring for children and no record of previous complaints, at least to her knowledge.

Initial investigation details

The preliminary hypothesis for the child’s death is bronchoaspiration, an event that can occur when substances, such as milk, are inhaled into the airways, causing obstruction. Confirmation of the exact cause of death, however, will depend on the official report to be issued by the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Curitiba, which performs the relevant exams to clarify the facts
