Ellen DeGeneres, hailing from Louisiana, began attracting significant attention in the late 1970s. She overcame numerous hurdles. In 1986, she received a major breakthrough when she performed a stand – up routine on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. This led to more appearances on late – night shows, consecutive bookings at clubs, and roles in TV series.
From 1989 to 1990, the now 66 – year – old comedian landed her first regular job on the short – lived sitcom Open House. And in 1994, she became the lead in the comedy series These Friends of Mine, which was later renamed Ellen.
When she read the script, she burst out laughing. She knew she could create something remarkable with it. She desired a show that everyone would be discussing the following day.
