It didn’t take long for an event that occurred before Emmanuel Macron even stepped off the plane to become widely shared on the internet.

In response to a frightening video that went viral and looked to show his wife Brigitte’slapping’ him before they stepped off an aircraft, French President Emmanuel Macron has broken his silence on the matter.

Yesterday marked the beginning of the couple’s tour of South-East Asia, which will also include stops in Indonesia and Singapore. The couple arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam, to begin their journey.

Their journey is not only Macron’s first official visit to Vietnam, but it is also the first visit from a French president in almost a decade. Together, they are making history.

Nevertheless, this ended up being slightly eclipsed by a moment that occurred before the president even got off the plane. It was a moment that occurred so quickly that it was almost impossible to miss it.

Macron could be seen in footage obtained by the Associated Press standing at the departure of the jet as construction workers unlocked the door.

During the time that they were preparing the doorway and stairway for the couple’s departure, an arm suddenly came into view and looked to’slap’ Macron’s face.

Just a few moments later, his wife emerged from behind him, wearing a red blazer, and then the two of them descended the steps and made their way onto the runway.

“Like she thought she was invisible or something and Macron just laughed it off, shaking hands like, ‘No big deal, just got publicly slapped by my wife, move along’.”

It was stated by another individual that a hand appeared out of a crimson jacket and slapped the president. It is not a comedic sketch; rather, it is the formal arrival of Monsieur Macron and Madame Brigitte in Vietnam.

Macron appeared to be “momentarily stunned” before “evening it out with a wave,” according to a third person who made the observation.

The alleged altercation may have unavoidably caused the internet to go into overdrive, but Macron has subsequently asserted that the exchange may not have been as it appeared to be.

It was later reported by France24 that he stated, “We are horsing around and, really, joking with my wife.” He explained to the reporters that they had simply been joking around throughout the entire incident.

Macron went on to argue that the incident had been grossly exaggerated, stating that “it becomes a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe.”

Additionally, his office had earlier provided an explanation, reiterating that the pair, who have been married since 2007, were merely joking around when they made the statement.

According to a statement, “It was a moment where the president and his wife were decompressing one last time before the start of the trip by horsing around,” which was the explanation given by the statement.

“Such a moment of complicity has occurred. That was all that was required to provide the conspiracy theorists with any additional ammunition.
