A British national of Indian origin has walked out as the lone survivor of a tragic Air India plane crash that killed 241 people, both passengers and crew, in what is being termed as a “miracle in seat 11A.”

Families are devastated on three continents, aviation authorities and investigators are rushing to figure out what brought down the plane shortly after it had taken off.

In Leicester, the Ramesh family is having to deal with the fall-out. The younger brother of Vishwash, Nayan Kumar Ramesh (27) told reporters outside the family house that they were shocked. I talked to him last yesterday morning.

We are broken, just broken,” he said. He facetimed my dad and said, Oh the plane has crashed. I do not know where my brother is. I cannot notice other passengers. I do not know that I am alive.’

According to journalist Neville Lazarus, who gotten a chance to talk to Ramesh briefly at the hospital, the survivor was very bruised, but conscious and alert. Hospital officials reported that Ramesh got some minor physical injuries but seemed to be in a psychological trauma state.

Dr. Shariq one of the first to take care of him said, He was ok, with just a couple of cuts on the hands and face. Nothing was at all wrong in a major way. He walked with a limp. But his mind was shaken up.”

The one question which everyone wants to know the answer to is how Ramesh survived when nobody else did. CNN analyst and former U.S. Federal Aviation Administration safety inspector David Soucie, who survived the crash, termed his survival as “incredibly surprising,”

especially considering the position of seat 11A. The seat is where the wing spar would hit the ground and it would be a solid one at that, explained Soucie. “However, above it, in terms of survivability, that is very surprising.”

The black box is said to be retrieved and the Indian aviation regulators are collaborating with foreign investigators, Boeing and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch of the UK to ascertain the cause of the crash.

Amazingly, there was one survivor of the crash, a 40-year old British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh. He was sitting in 11A, next to an emergency exit and is being treated at a local hospital with multiple injuries.

Just before the crash, the pilot of the ill-fated flight, Captain Sumeet Sabharwal passed a desperate mayday call. It is reported that he and the co-pilot Clive Kundar both notified the air traffic control that the plane was losing power very fast and was not able to climb.

The London Evening Standard reported that Sabharwal could be heard saying no thrust and I am not able to lift, as the plane was hovering at a very low altitude of only 650 feet. A few seconds after, the plane disappeared off the radar.

Preliminary data provided by the flight tracking service FlightRadar24 specifies that the aircraft lost contact virtually upon takeoff,

Readers wrote to Snopes in March 2024 to enquire about a story of a pilot who reportedly became upset when he realised why a group of birds was flying adjacent to his aircraft. One reader sent the headline of a story from the happiness-life.org website, which said, “The pilot’s emotional reaction when he discovered why birds were flying alongside the plane.”

An eye-catching image of hundreds of birds seemingly encircling a British Airways flight was included in the narrative. Some readers may associate these images with bird strikes, a frequent occurrence in aviation where birds and aeroplanes collide.

According to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, almost 90% of bird hits occur at or close to airports, typically during takeoff or landing.

US Airways Flight 1549, in which Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger made a safe landing in the Hudson River in 2009, is among the most well-known bird strike occurrences.
