Hiker finds massive ‘beast’ hiding along banks of South Carolina creek

The snake, soaking up some sun, startled Langley. She wrote on Facebook, “Look how well it blends in.”

“This was a great teaching moment for my kids, who always forget not to run ahead on the trail,” Langley told members of the private Facebook group, South Carolina Hiking Club.

She guessed the beast was about four to five feet long when stretched out and it was “totally unafraid of us.”

“It just watched us calmly, without aggression or fear. That told me it knew it could defend itself if needed, but didn’t want to waste energy,” Langley said of the snake she snapped a photo of before backing away quietly. “That’s its home, not ours. My kids and I always respect nature.”

The online community was horrified when they saw the fearless snake lounging by a popular hiking path.
