I was not prepared after My Exes New Wife Bought Our Daughter an Expensive Dress
I am April and I got divorced with Mark 6 years ago. He did not wait long before marrying Cassandra, a woman who likes empathy least of all and talks like she was pitching a business concept all the time.
Mark and I have a daughter named Lily who is 17. She is very active and keen, as though she understood something really deep down inside. She will be graduating this year and she is very ambitious as she preparations to join college in a few months.
Dress Design
I was cooking one day, and Lily was buzzing me with what she had discovered on her phone. “Mom, look! how fair is this? It would Christmas really at prom, she answered gaily.
The picture demonstrated an elegant satin dress, some pretty beads work, which reminded the stars in the sky, fashionable draping and a traditional figure.
Then I noticed the price of the bike was 1,000 dollars.
To operate our house we must work two jobs, yet those special clothes might be unaffordable. Too difficult to get. I made an effort to smile regardless of the way I felt. I just can not quit saying how nice it is.
Lily experienced the financial pinch. I know you have much to do, she said. I had simply been dreaming.
That night, when she had fallen asleep, I remained at the kitchen table and could not take my eyes off the dress that was displayed on her social media.
Experience of that kind led me to the remembrance of my early years when my mother taught me to sew not to create clothing items, but to be able to live in the most basic ways.
Heartfelt Proposals That Rock
The following day, in pajamas and with coffee, I went by and knocked at the door of Lily. “What if… You pretty well like the dress I made you? I asked. How about you join me in generating the design.
In the introductory part she seemed somehow skeptical. Mom, you are nicely working. The end result may not appear correct, and that scares me.
That will be an issue no more. Through the years, my grandma informed me that the loveliest dresses have been sewed with love.
Lily smiled as soon as she took a moment to think. “All right then, let us go.”
Merging Dreams
We began to make evenings similar, with drawing and comparing fabrics and with relishing inventing changes. Lily sought an elegant appearance whilst still being straightforward.
We have chosen a cotton soft pink fabric, which is slightly magical. I decided to pay by credit without actually considering the risk.
My hands knew what to do but I worked the sewing machine every night after a tough day. Lily would sit by me and talk of anything; her school or her bright dreams.
The making of the dress altogether took three weeks. When Lily first wore it, I could not take my eyes off it was that beautiful. She was not a child, but gorgeous, grown up.
she was spinning before the mirror and asked her mom quietly, Mom, what do you think? It was perfect. I am even made to feel that I am the fairytale princess.
I cried, saying, “You are all alike to me.
At night when people whom we did not want came we became frightened.
I was sewing those little final stitches the night before prom, when I suddenly heard someone nearby the house. She wore her high heels and made confident steps. When I looked quickly out the window at her she was clasping the garment bag as one might a holy relic.
“Cassandra?” I said, opening the door.
She smiled calmly and coolly. There is something I wanted to give Lily as a present.
Lily ran down stairs, to see. Cassandra fishing the bag out with a lot of ceremony handed me the very dress Lily had presented me to.
I only wanted to bring you something real, Cassandra told me as she was gazing at me. They do not equal the food that a person prepared at home.
Immediately Lily began to admire the beads on the dress she had. “It’s beautiful. Thank you.”
Cassandra beamed. He paid it this morning. We just intended to do the best by you.
Lily said nothing after Cassandra went. “Mom” Piper started to say.
I raise my hand gradually without being too noticeable. It is your decision to make finally. Do anything that makes you feel happy.
She nodded. She went as near as possible, straight to her bed.
Prom Night
I assisted her with dinner party the following evening though I was not aware of the dress she had settled on. I could not stop shaking when pulling her hair, putting some makeup, and clipping her necklace.
She held my hand and said, mom. “It was everything to me what you did to me.”
And she went down the stairs then, and my heart stood still. She was fashionably attired in the dress which I had sewed with my own needle.
I quietly muttered in her ear, “You are…. stunning.”
Lily smiled and handed me her phone. Read the post of Cassandra here.
In the photo, the dress was seen wrapped in a plastic bag and next to it was written: “I can barely wait to see Lily in her dream dress this evening! 💅🏻
Lily laughed. Here something is going to happen to her that she did not expect. Shall we begin to go to the school now?
An open Letter to the People
Cassandra became the coach at we campus. Lily made herself apparent to her immediately when she came in wearing celebrity clothes.
“Lily?! It is not the dress I received!”
Lily was straight postured. “Nope. I am wearing the jersey, which was made by my mom.
“But… why?” Cassandra stammered.
More than anything that one can call himself/herself, love is valuable. My mother gave me everything I needed to have in life.
Lily turned and walked away in silence and the sound of her heels played music on the floor as she strided into the gym with pride and dignity.
It begins in the same place that After the Ball ended.
The following day, Lily appeared in her prom picture that left everybody on social media cheering. In her comment it read:
The dress was made by my mom because I could not afford the costly one. She would do it at night, after working twice. I have never felt more beautiful, more valued. No cost is attached to the feeling of love.
The comments were in hundreds, and there people told their stories about how they like the dress and admire the woman who created it.
Two days after their conversation, Lily showed me a text conversation with Cassandra.
Your mom ought to pay me 1,000 dollars after you decided not to wear the dress I purchased.
Lily: “You can not revive love like a receipt. Do not dispose your dress after use. I managed to parent without it.
Blocking and unfollowing Cassandra left our lives clean.
These parents left a legacy of love behind.
Mark called a bit later to apologize but, at that point, the damage was already done.
I placed a picture of Lily on prom with her prom date beside a picture of my mom teaching me how to sew when I was a kid. Here is what happens to me every morning on my way to school: I pass a red rose and a tomato and I remember: there are things in life that are priceless.
Lily will be carrying the dress to college not to wear but to remind her of her origin.
Well, in this essay it is I who am talking. It will be improved when I utilize my machine in sewing. Love cannot be bought; hence, it requires caring and gentle decisions braided to create it.
