General Hospital star Kirsten Storms has revealed that she will soon undergo brain surgery after doctors discovered an aneurysm during a routine follow-up scan earlier this year. The 41-year-old actress shared the news with fans on Instagram, explaining that the aneurysm was found in January during a check-up related to her 2021 brain cyst surgery. Her neurosurgeon is scheduled to operate later this month.
“I wanted to post this because even though my brain seems to be sorta lowkey rebelling against me, it does allow me to understand that we’ve all got times when things aren’t great,” she wrote. “If we can, we will do our best to do what is best for ourselves and loved ones.”
Storms admitted she was “majorly freaked out” when she first heard the diagnosis. After her hospital stay, false rumors circulated online claiming she had tried to harm herself — a story she firmly denied. “There are a few really bad apples out there,” she said, while also expressing deep gratitude to her friends who stood by her side, including one who spent time crocheting sweaters with her during recovery.
Taking Time Away from the Spotlight
Storms also addressed her temporary break from General Hospital, where she has portrayed Maxie Jones since 2005. In July, she told fans she had moved from Los Angeles to Nashville with her daughter, Harper, to focus on her health and personal life. The move sparked speculation about her status on the show, but Storms clarified that she is not leaving permanently.
She explained that she had spoken with the show’s executive producer months earlier and was given time off rather than ending her contract. “It’s possible I will be back in December, maybe November,” she said. “I promise you the storyline they have going on until my return to Port Charles is kind of incredible. You guys are gonna freak out actually.”
Born April 8, 1984, in Orlando, Florida, Kirsten Storms began her career on the Disney Channel, starring in Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century and voicing characters in Kim Possible. Before joining General Hospital, she played Belle Black on Days of Our Lives and has earned multiple Daytime Emmy nominations for her performances. Despite her current health struggles, fans are rallying behind her with messages of love and support as she prepares for her next surgery.
