My Husband Left Me for His Boss While I Was Pregnant—Then She Offered Me a House in Exchange for One of My Babies

I received a picture of Eric in her bed from my husband’s boss when she was seven months pregnant with twins. They revealed the ultimate betrayal a few hours later: she wanted one of my babies in return for housing, and he was leaving me for her. They had no idea what I had in store.

My life fell apart while I was heavily pregnant with twins.

My phone buzzed when I was folding small onesies and thinking of baby names.

When I noticed that it was a message from Veronica, my husband’s supervisor, my pulse raced. I thought right away that Eric had had a rough day at work, but it was far worse than that.

Anticipating an accident, I opened the message to see a photo of Eric shirtless and laying in an odd bed. giving the camera a sly smile.

The caption made it quite obvious what it meant, in case I had been unsure: “It’s time you knew.” I own him.

My hands became icy. The babies, almost sensing my sadness, kicked inside of me. Eric and his employer were having an affair.

I called Eric right away, but the call went straight to voicemail. I called repeatedly, but none of them were successful.

By then, my bladder felt like a trampoline that the twins were using alternately. I put a palm on my stomach as I slowly lowered myself onto the couch.

Merely, “Easy, babies,” I said. “Mama will always look out for you. And I know Daddy, regardless of what occurs today. Even if Eric has deceived me, he won’t leave you.

I had never realized how mistaken I was.

That night, Eric wasn’t alone when he got home from work.

Like she owned the room, Veronica walked in with a waltz. Tall, self-assured, and wearing clothing that most likely cost more than our rent. The kind of woman who, simply by breathing, attracted attention.

“Eric… what is this?” I tried to be strong even though I didn’t feel like it as I stood in the living room and looked down at them both.

Eric let out a sigh. “Lauren, it’s that easy. I’m leaving you because I’m in love with Veronica. Please, let’s act like grownups and not cause a scene.

I felt the remarks as if they were actual blows. They all landed right where they stung the most.

I muttered, “You can’t be serious,” “We’re having babies in two months.”

“Life happens,” he shrugged and remarked. A shrug! Instead of deserting his pregnant wife, he seemed to be talking about changing the plans for dinner.

Then Veronica crossed her arms while her luxury blazer tapped against her immaculately manicured nails.

“And since this is Eric’s apartment, you’ll need to move out by the end of the week.”

I became enraged. “Are you two crazy? I have nowhere to go! I am carrying HIS offspring.

“Twins, right?” She cocked her head, calculatingly examining my abdomen. Or are they triplets? You’re kind of swollen. I believe I have a solution for you.

Her mouth curled into what she must have believed to be a smile. “I’ll rent you a house and cover all your expenses, but I want one of your babies.”

My blood froze. “What?!”

“I’d like to have a baby, but there’s no way I’m going to do that to my body.” She spun a finger around my abdomen. “You’ll never manage raising twins alone, so this is a win-win situation.”

What I was hearing was unbelievable. This woman sounded as though she were discussing puppy adoption!

“The child will be raised as mine. They’ll go to the greatest schools and have the best nannies. Eric leaned into her touch as she caressed his chest. Additionally, you receive a roof over your head. It’s a good bargain.

As she talked, Eric nodded, as if it made sense to barter one of our infants.

I was having trouble breathing. How could they try to use my children as leverage? Despite my desire to eject them both, they had me surrounded. I have no close friends or relatives to lean on.

But then I came up with a strategy.

Whispering, “I have nowhere else to go,” I fought back tears. “I’ll agree to your deal, but I have one condition.”

Veronica grinned. “Wise girl. What’s the situation?”

“I want to pick which baby you get.” I looked down as though embarrassed, and sniffed. “Just give me some time with them to decide which one will have a better life with you.”

She and Eric looked at each other. I could see by the look in their eyes that they believed I had lost.

“Fine,” she said. Don’t take too long, though. We’ll take the one you don’t want when they’re born.”

I wiped away a fictitious tear and nodded. “And… one more thing.”

Veronica let out a loud sigh. “What now?”

“You’ll buy me a house, not rent it,” I firmly stated. “I require protection. I’ll walk away if you disagree, and you won’t see them again.”

Veronica raised a hand, but Eric sneered.

She remarked, “You’re pushy, but I’ll agree,” “It spares me the headache and time it would take to find an other solution. However, you had best fulfill your half of the bargain.

I nodded, appearing to be the shattered, defenseless person they believed me to be.

But within? I had a smile on my face. since they were unaware of what was about to happen.

The months that followed were a patience test.

I purchased a three-bedroom home in a peaceful area from Veronica. It wasn’t until the day we signed the paperwork that she and Eric even got to see it and meet the agent.

When we left the realtor’s office that day, I exhaled with relief. The first step was finished, yet they still had no idea.

When Veronica came to visit, I let her feel my belly and told them about my doctor’s appointments while gushing over “her” baby. I informed her that I was having a terrible time deciding which baby to keep.

Time was of the essence as I got ready to deliver the last blow.

It was a Tuesday night that I went into labor. When I was heading to the hospital, I contacted Veronica to let the nurses know that I didn’t want her or Eric in the delivery room.

At one point, I could hear them complaining outside, but I couldn’t understand them since the contractions were coming quickly and forcefully.

My babies came six hours later. Two ideal girls with dark hair and lungs that functioned well.

The nurse grinned. “Want me to tell your husband and your… friend?”

I said, “Tell them the babies are fine, but I need three days,” while clutching my kids.

Despite her bewildered expression, the nurse nodded.

I gave the girls the names Emma and Lily. I committed their cries, their faces, and the sensation of their small fingers around mine to memory.

I also completed my plan.

On the second day, I took the babies home. I gave Veronica a call on the third day.

“I’m ready to talk.”

Within an hour, she and Eric arrived. Eric was following Veronica like a shadow, and she was nearly pulsing with excitement.

“So,” she crooned as she entered my home. “Which one is mine?”

With one infant in each arm, I inhaled deeply. “Neither.”

Her grin stopped. “Excuse me?”

Slowly, I got to my feet. My voice was powerful, yet my body hurt.

“Veronica, I’m not giving you my child. either of them.

Eric let out a grunt. “Oh, don’t start this dramatic nonsense—”

“You two believed that I could sell you a baby? As if I were some desperate fool? The good news is that I’m not.

Veronica growled, “Then I’m kicking you out of this house,” “You can live on the street for all I care!”

I grinned. “That is not possible. I am the owner of this house.

The color faded from Veronica’s face. “What? No, it’s not feasible! “Tell her, Eric!”

Eric appeared equally perplexed. “We signed the papers together!”

“Yes. Additionally, you both fully signed it for me. You didn’t notice since you were too busy bragging. The sole name on the deed is mine.

Veronica staggered back as if I had given her a slap.

“You conniving little—”

I added, “Oh, and one more thing,” while rocking Lily gently while she fussed. “I went ahead and told a few people about how Eric cheated on his pregnant wife, and how he and his mistress tried to buy his child.”

I gave my phone on the coffee table a nod.

“You are welcome to look at social media. Everything was posted last night. The messages. The images. You’re a sick baby. Everything is there. I also labeled your investors, Veronica, and your business. even the nonprofit boards you serve on.

Veronica sprang for my cell. As she scrolled, her face turned from pale to gray.

“As you can see, they find your behavior very interesting.”

With a cry of sheer anger and despair, Veronica let forth a scream.

White as paper, Eric snatched the phone away from her. “You — you ruined us!”

“No. You two damaged yourselves.

Eric was laid off. Selling your child didn’t fit with the “family values” brand of his organization. Not only was Veronica dismissed, but she was also shunned by her career and social circles after making headlines for all the wrong reasons.

And me? Satisfied that I didn’t just get retribution, I rocked my daughters to sleep every night in our lovely house.

I prevailed.
