A difficult diagnosis
When Jase revealed details of Phil’s health issues on the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast in December 2024, the public was first made aware of them.
He disclosed that Phil had been given an Alzheimer’s diagnosis and alluded to possible further issues.
At the time, Jase stated, “The doctors are certain that he has a blood disease of some kind that’s causing all kinds of problems.”
“His entire body is experiencing issues as a result of its acceleration.” When you combine those factors, it’s clear that he’s not doing well. He’s having a lot of trouble.
Phil continued to be a rock for the family in spite of his deteriorating health.
Culture conflicts and duck calls
Prior to becoming the well-known father of the Duck Dynasty family, Phil Robertson made a lucrative business out of his love of hunting.
He established Duck Commander in 1972, beginning modestly with a special duck call he had created. Designed to sound exactly like a genuine duck, the Duck Commander call soon gained popularity among hunters and helped the business grow into a multimillion-dollar brand.
When A&E’s Duck Dynasty, which followed the Louisiana family’s duck-call business, debuted in 2012, Phil became well-known.
The entire Robertson family became reality TV royalty throughout the show’s 11-season run till 2017. Phil swiftly emerged as the show’s spiritual center thanks to his camouflage attire, long beard, and backwoods knowledge.
However, his vocal opinions also drew criticism. Phil’s homophobic remarks in a 2013 interview with GQ caused a great deal of controversy:
removed from the program
“As a man, I think a vgina would be more attractive than a man’s ans,” he remarked.
“Begin by acting in a homosexual manner, then just change your conduct from there. Having sexual relations with these women, those women, and those men is bestiality.
He went on:
“There is more with women! “But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man,” she replied, adding that she had more to offer. It simply doesn’t make sense.
After a temporary suspension from the show by A&E, he quickly returned due to public uproar from fans, particularly those who shared his beliefs and principles.
The Robertson brand prospered in spite of the criticism. Although Phil’s comments drew harsh condemnation, they also strengthened his support among conservative, religious audiences who respected his uncompromising position.
A legacy that beyond television
Duck Dynasty evolved into a cultural movement rather than only a television program. Best-selling books were published by the Robertson family, and they even started spinoffs like At Home with the Robertsons, Jep & Jessica: Growing the Dynasty, and even a Christmas record called Duck the Halls.
The family most recently revealed Duck Dynasty: The Revival, a revival that would debut on June 1, 2025. The focus was now on Willie, Korie, and the following generation.
It’s unknown now how Phil’s passing would affect the premiere of the series.
“I never imagined that we would repeat this. Prior to his father’s death, Willie told Us Weekly, “But I realized people wanted to see what we’re doing.”
Fans in sorrow
Following his passing, followers posted heartfelt and conflicted feelings on social media.
One fan commented, “Don’t agree with his politics, but happy he is at peace,” while another wrote, “You will be remembered.”
In addition to his bereaved family, Phil Robertson leaves behind a vast legacy that encompasses not just controversy, faith, popularity, and the fervent devotion of millions of people.
Whether you like him or not, Phil Robertson had a significant impact on American culture. His family is holding on to the exact thing Phil valued most as they say goodbye: faith in Christ and the assurance of eternal life.
