A woman identified as Brenda Ester Nájera Domingo, 36, was killed this Thursday in an armed attack while driving her motorcycle taxi along a dirt road that connects to the village of Escalón Abajo, in the municipality of San Jacinto, department of Jalapa, Guatemala.

The violent incident took place on the morning of Thursday, June 19, in a rural area known for its poor security and high crime rate, according to local residents.

The deceased, originally from San Luis Jilotepeque but residing in San Jacinto, was a local transportation worker recognized for her daily efforts as a motorcycle taxi driver. Friends and relatives describe her as a persevering woman, a devoted mother, and an example of constant struggle for her family’s well-being.

According to preliminary reports, the armed attack is presumed to have occurred when the victim attempted to prevent a robbery.

The attacker(s) opened fire on her, killing her instantly. The crime occurred on a public street, in an area considered dangerous by residents and frequently used by criminals for robberies.

Security forces are already working on the investigation. No arrests have been reported in connection with the incident so far.

The community demands that the murder be solved and asks authorities to increase patrols and implement security measures on the municipality’s rural roads, which are considered high-risk.
