The pregnant sow went into labor, had a high fever, and they believed she would die.

Emma the pig arrived at Apricot Lane Farm in California in a really rough state—sick, weak, and hugely pregnant.

The vets told the farm owner he’d be lucky if the pig had a minimum of six piglets. Well, their guess was spot-on.

That night when Emma gave birth, she didn’t have six or eight piglets; she had seventeen! Only thirteen survived.

Chester, the farm owner, was astonished, and Emma was exhausted.

The long, grueling labor didn’t do her any favors—she was already frail. Her fever spiked, so Chester had to separate the piglets from her to give them a chance.

If Emma had died, they’d have had to feed the piglets four times a day. But that plan flopped, and Emma’s condition worsened.

Chester said, “Had I not seen it myself, I wouldn’t have believed it.” The miracle happened when he brought the piglets back.

The moment Emma saw her piglets again, she perked up right away. She managed to get up and eat bit by bit.

Chester added, “I’d like to think we saved Emma, but it’s obvious her maternal instinct saved her.” For her, that instinct was being a mom. Some folks say what seems to end our lives sometimes turns out to be the only thing that can save us.
