The sin of cremation.

If at any point in your life you have thought about what you want done with your body after death and have considered having your body cremated or incinerated, it is good to have all the information.

Although this topic may be shocking, it is something we should think about at some point because death is a reality of life.

That said, many of us focus only on earthly life, but only a few think about the spiritual life we live after life here on earth.

The Bible does not include specific scriptures regarding cremation. Although burial or entombment is the traditional option for Christians,  the Bible does not prohibit cremation.  Most religions accept cremation.

Religions may reject cremation because they believe the body will be resurrected when Jesus Christ returns. Cremating a loved one would mean there is no body to resurrect. Christians may consider such beliefs irrelevant, according to the New Testament scriptures.

There are many schools of thought regarding cremation. Some believe that, although  cremation is not considered a sin , Christians should do their best to follow the examples set forth in the Bible. Others agree that the Lord will resurrect the dead, in whatever form, cremated or buried. Burial is the traditional choice for Christians, but cremation is growing in popularity.

The Old Testament recognizes that a body is simply dust after death. For many, this is reason enough to accept cremation as an option.

Daniel 12:2  states, “And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to eternal life, but some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

In Genesis 3:19 , God told Adam, “By the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, since out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.”
