Which Cup Gets the Coffee First?
Take a look at the picture. There are 4 cups, each with a number. Coffee is being poured into tubes above the 4 cups. Which cup will get the coffee first?
You might think the first 2 cups, with less tubing, will get the coffee first, so the order would be 4, 9, 7, 5. But that’s wrong.
These kinds of riddles need some creative thinking. You might guess all cups get coffee at the same time, but that’s not right either.

The coffee is poured from above and follows the connected routes. The trick is to see which routes are clear for the coffee to flow.
Check each route:
Cup 4: The route is blocked.
Cup 9: The route is blocked.
Cup 5: The route is clear! The coffee can go straight to this cup.
Cup 7: The route is blocked.
Answer: Cup 5 will get the coffee first.
